Well what can I write about Daryl, what would you like to know?
Let me start with a few adjectives to kick us off:
|
With his two loyal companions Milo and Mia |
Loyal
Honest
Hardworking
Innovative
Resilient
Stubborn
Humorous
Kind
Dedicated
And so much more.......
Daryl and I first met more than 20 years ago, briefly chatting at a work function, our paths crossed on odd occasions, but we were living very different lives, with different partners. Fate would have us meet again about 10 years ago, both single and as the classics say, the rest is history.
Daryl took me on, plus my six children aged 3-13 and his two primary aged sons - did I mention he was extraordinary?

A little RnR |
Anyhow, of course we all lived happily ever after, in our perfectly-sized home for 10 and everyone worked together and we all got along fabulously and life was just a treat.........oh dear, sorry I must have been dreaming for a moment - that was definitely not the way the story unfolded. But despite the challenges we all faced, combining two families together, moving homes, and getting married, we have succeeded. Our children, all relatively well adjustable, continue to thrive as they pursue their own paths, including the arrival of a beautiful granddaughter. The youngest of the brood, at 15, has made the journey with us to Rivergum Farmstead and she has adjusted to country life very easily.
Now back to Daryl - I think he has found a very happy place on the farm, so many toys (big ones) to play with, so many projects to undertake, so many ideas coursing through his mind, so many plans yet, so little time ( and money) to get the dream started.

The car that didn't..another story! |
But he is an optimist and he endures, continually facing each challenge as it present itself and continues to put one foot in front of the other. He remembers to enjoy moments - like the sunrise each morning and sunset so beautiful after a hot summer's day. He relishes in the beauty of the wildlife on our front door step, the sea eagles, hawks, deer and wallabies and of course our own livestock who bring us great joy(most of the time).

Feathered friends |
He soaks up the serenity of the morass, its peace and tranquility and the solace it provides as he walks the many tracks with his loyal companions Mia and Milo (Kelpie and Labrador respectively). He is indeed a keeper.
Daryl, like me, aims for this farm to be a productive enterprise, and continues to dream of the day we begin to reap the rewards of our labour.
How wonderful to have such a fantastic person to share the journey with! Though I hope he has time to sleep :)
ReplyDeleteAccording to Daryl,sleep is overrated.
